Matériel creator, Michael Freimuth asked if I'd contribute an illustration to the first issue of the magazine. He told me that it was going to be huge spreads, bigger than a newspaper. Needless to say I was pretty excited to be a part of it. And man, is that magazine big. Almost ridiculous big. But very cool. This piece was inspired by an old school photo I found of one of my sister's friends from middle school. On the back of the photo, she wrote that she hoped my sister considered her a friend. She also spelled my sister's name wrong. I found it pretty sad, but also a great tribute to adolescence.
